In conjunction with the Seniors Advisory Committee of Markham and the City of Markham as part of Ontario's 33rd Annual Seniors' Month, the Markham Senior Art Showcase and Sale is destined to serve as a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the incredible talents of seniors in the area. Here is an overview of this exciting three-day celebration of various works by local artists.
When, Where, and Why
Taking place from June 14-16 from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day (and until 6:00pm on June 15), the event will be held in Markham Civic Centre’s Great Hall (101 Town Centre Blvd). This three-day display and sale of more than 100 special creations, including those by brilliant artists from Thornhill Seniors Club, Milliken on the Move, and Older Adults in Action (Markham Seniors Centre) will surely motivate and inspire visitors of all ages.
A similar event was held in 2009 at the same location, and it was an undeniable success, successfully highlighting the astounding talents of seniors in the Markham area. The Seniors Advisory Committee of Markham aims to encourage increased participation from local seniors in events and opportunities that allow them to openly express themselves. As a result, the Senior Art Showcase and Sale is intended to be an insightful, fun, and engaging experience for participants as well as attendees.
A Celebration of Hidden Talent
Seniors and their families (including children) are encouraged to attend this exciting celebration and become inspired by the diverse collection of colourful, one-of-a-kind pieces on display — some of which might prove to be tempting to proudly bring home. Alongside the three-day exhibition of beautiful local artwork, attendees will have a chance to meet the artists along with the Mayor and members of City Council, as well as enjoy light refreshments. This meet-and-greet session takes place in the Great Hall on June 15, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the stories and passions of seniors in the area, and form inspirational bonds with gifted members of the community.
Giving Back to Local Seniors
The event is a wonderful way to ring in Canada’s 150th birthday through discovering the talents of Markham’s senior population, and it’s a great way to appreciate these local artists. Here at MEDability Home Medical Equipment, we are proud to support our senior community here in Markham.
This year’s theme for Seniors’ Month is “Living Your Best Life”, and through the mental stimulation and inspiration that comes with creative hobbies, local seniors are discovering the delights and fascinating world of art. The 2017 Senior Art Showcase and Sale is a thoughtful way of presenting this theme.
