Whether you are recovering from an injury or returning from a hospital stay, MEDability has all the home medical equipment you need for a speedy, safe recovery. If you have a long-term need for a mobility device and know exactly which model is right for you, then making a full purchase is the obvious choice. If your recovery needs are in the short-term or constantly change or if you are undecided on the right device, then renting home medical equipment may be the preferred option.
Let’s explore the scenarios in which it makes the most sense to rent or buy home medical equipment.
Rent for a Short-Term Recovery
If you expect to only need assistance for a few days or weeks, there is no need to buy a wheelchair or hospital bed outright. Renting allows you to get the assistance you need during your recovery, without the financial burden of paying the entire price of the device when you only need it for a short while. You can rent everything from forearm crutches and shower chairs to power wheelchairs from MEDability to assist in the recovery process.
Rent if You Want to Try Before You Buy
At MEDability, we offer 8 different power wheelchair models, 15 manual wheelchairs, and 30+ walking devices in our product line. Each product has its unique advantages. Even with guidance from our friendly and expert sales staff, it can be difficult to decide which device is most appropriate for you. Our rental program allows you to try out a few different options without the financial commitment of buying outright. When you find the perfect fit, a one month rental fee can be applied to the purchase.
Rent if You Need Flexibility
When you are recovering from an injury or illness, your assistance requirements will change over time. When you first get out of the hospital, you may need a wheelchair, electric patient lifter, transfer board, and more. As your condition begins to improve, your equipment requirements will change. Renting allows you to transition to different devices with ease as you make your way through the recovery process.
Buy for Long-Term Recovery
If you will need the device for a period of months or longer, then for reasons of convenience, comfort, and finances it will make sense to buy. The cost of purchasing home medical equipment can be eased with the help of funding programs. In Ontario, the Ministry of Health Assistive Devices program (ADP) has specific eligibility criteria but in general if the prescribed equipment is required for more than six months you could be eligible for 75% funding. A government authorized Occupational or Physio Therapist is required to do the assessment. MEDability can provide you with the ADP information pamphlet and help with the navigation of the assessment process.
If you are renting mobility equipment and do qualify for funding, MEDabiity will apply the first month rental to the 25% client portion.
At MEDability, we offer a wide range of products as part of our rental program. From canes and crutches to wheelchairs and hospital beds, we offer the same high-quality products that we sell for rent on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
